History of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church
On October 18, 1992 Zion celebrated its 150th anniversary. Parish records show that the first members of the 1842 newly formed church were the Fisher's, the Lone's, and the Greenwalt's. The first recorded pastor of our Zion church was A.B. Doner who had been conducting bible study and prayer meetings prior to his ordination. Rev. Doner continued to Pastor until 1853.
In the early years, the Zion congregation was made up of both Lutherans and German reform members. Early 1846 records gave the names or 23 communicants, with the numbers growing to 45 in 1852. With the help of Lutheran and reformed members, a church building was erected on the farm of Michael Fisher. The building served from 1847-1868.
The present day church building was erected in 1912-1913 with the Reverend H.G. Miley residing. the original Zion congregation merged with St. Mathew's, a daughter congregation of Old Zion, to form the present parish.
